The kickoff
for the incentive program is an important step. You want to create
excitement and you want everyone to understand the objectives clearly.
It needs to be fun and energetic. You want a huge return on investment.
Introduce
the program by describing the goal.
- Why is reaching
the goal important?
- What will
it do for the company and for the team?
- What are
any possible obstacles?
- How are you
going to get there?
Introduce the
participants.
- Are there
team divisions?
- Who are all
the participants and what are their roles in the program?
- Is there
a team leader of each group?
Describe the
reward.
- What are
the criteria for receiving the reward?
- What are
the perks of the reward?
- Provide any
kickoff motivational materials. Is there a video of last year's
travel reward you want to show for a little extra punch?
Examples
of introductory motivational materials:
Travel
Reward: Acapulco, Mexico
- Give
everyone a beach ball that says, "See you in Mexico, President's
Club 2001."
- Show
everyone last year's group video.
- Show
a tourist-y video to show where the hotel will be, the golf
outings, the food, the mariachi bands, the bikinis -- whatever
gets them going

Fun Reward: Remote Control Cars
- Give
everyone the cars ahead of time, but keep the transmitters.
If they want to play, they have to pay!
- Purchase
a car for yourself and tease everyone by playing with it
around the office. They'll want to get their hands on one

Household Reward: Entertainment Center
- Give
everyone a remote control (without the batteries, of course!)
They will have a constant reminder of what could be on the
other end of that remote!
- Think
about snacks for the couch potatoes...potato chips, popcorn,
sodas.

Timepiece
Reward: Rolex Watch
- Give
everyone a cheap toy watch or sports watch. A fun kickoff
toy with greater potential! Get the idea?
- Also
consider candy watches and jewelry.

Go for the
Goal! By now you should have determined how you will kick off
